For many years the typical clock would either be hung on a wall, or an alarm clock which would sit next to you bed, however in recent years a novel type of device has emerged which projects the time on a wall or on the ceiling. These types of clocks are called projector clocks.

The key feature on these devices is a projection device which will beam light on a flat surface which would be either be a wall or ceiling. This offers a unique and innovative way to turn a blank wall or ceiling into a functional space which is both stylish and futuristic. Projection clocks can display time in either an analogue or digital format and it can be shown in colour or simply black and white, depending on the model and type you buy.

Projection clocks first came into existence many years ago for advertising and merchandising as they certainly got peoples attention, these devices would be made to project a companies logo or message with the time. In more recent times they have started to appear in homes and smaller businesses with the most popular types being projection alarm clocks.

In business many companies also use projector clocks as a way to attract people’s attention, many have installed these devices in reception areas, boardrooms or offices and they beam the time, either in digital format or analogue onto the wall which makes a very memorable impression on visitors.

In the home the most common kind of projector clock is in the form of the projection alarm clock, these are steadily replacing the old style alarm clocks and are extremely popular for kids, teenagers and also people who like novelty ideas or something funky. Most project the time in digital format, and you can swivel the projector so you can adjust where the image is shown, many also have a smart function of projecting the time onto the wall or ceiling when the alarm goes off.

The range of projector clocks is vast, with custom bespoke clocks costing thousands and the typical home alarm version costing much less. They can display moving clocks onto a wall or just a normal digital readout. Some of the most popular projector clock brands include Oregon scientific, La Crosse as well as Acctim and LC Designs.

Some of the more powerful projector clocks run off the mains electricity, as they require large amounts of electricity to project the intense light onto a surface, these more powerful models are for businesses or for promotion. In the home most of these devices also run from the mains electricity however some models do not require much power and so can be run from normally AA batteries.
